Supported
Organizations in 2004
The first two Operation Canasta grants were awarded to
two organizations serving some of Argentina’s neediest children
and operating on opposite ends of the country:
Casa del Niño is located in Jujuy, Argentina’s
northernmost province. Its mission is to feed impoverished children,
ages 2-17, three
meals a day and to give them a safe, nurturing place to stay while their
parents seek work. Volunteers help children with their homework and parents
attend workshops on nutrition, health and childcare.
Asociación Kerispen is located in the southernmost
part of Argentina known as Tierra del Fuego. This comedor serves 240
children daily by
providing them with much needed food and clothing. Part of the Operation
Canasta funds were used to train mothers and to found a self-sustaining
micro-enterprise making such products as jewelry, hats, bags, and knit
goods.
